Opportunity Quilt ~ Garden of Hope ~ 83" x 98"

Quilters Crossing of Palm Harbor has chosen Arts in Medicine Program at Moffitt Cancer Center as the beneficiary of our 2009 Opportunity Quilt. We chose this program because one of our members has recently benefited from treatments at Moffit Cancer Center and we all know someone who has been touched by this disease.

Edited excerpts of letter from family member to our guild.
We are blessed to live in West Central Florida - with the Moffitt jewel in our backyard! Cancer is scary. Many of you have been affected by it. If you have, hopefully you had the resources and caring people touch your lives as we have been blessed to have at Moffitt. Moffitt touches thousands well beyond the boundaries of Tampa, Florida. We are so lucky to have this treasure so close to us!
The Arts in Medicine Program at Moffitt is specifically designed to help patients and families, whether they are in or out patient, cope with Cancer through the Arts. We have seen first hand the miraculous touch this Arts "ministry" has on families at Moffitt. From the soothing effects of the piano, harps and cellos of the music program to the therapeutic effect of prayer quilts, silk paintings watercolors and abstract art pieces - this Arts program is delivering on the needs of patients, families and friends.

The Arts in Medicine Program at Moffitt reinstates a sense of purpose. Working on an Art project gives purpose like few activities in our lives. Mom got right back to cutting paper pieces for the Rose of the opportunity quilt after her first surgery. We watched her, somewhat in awe, though it made perfect sense because the Art of Quilting gives her purpose and through that she has touched numerous people's lives while in the hospital as she told the stories behind her many quilts.

We ask that you prayerfully consider supporting the Arts in Medicine Program at Moffitt through your purchase of tickets for this opportunity quilt. This program does great service on a meager budget. Every little bit of funding helps the people at Moffitt provide healing and coping. Moffitt is not some huge hospital with endless resources; we have found it to be a place of hope where courage is displayed every day.

Thank you so much for your consideration.
